Shagle Alternative: Free Safety Tools, One Optional $3 Extra

Updated · 6 min read

A good Shagle alternative should answer two questions up front: who's keeping the chat safe, and what will it cost you? On Omlet, random 1-on-1 video and text chat is free, every safety tool works the same for everyone, and the only paid extra is a country filter with a free first day, then $3 one time. The free day starts with a card, and the $3 is charged once when it ends unless you cancel in Settings.

This page lays out how Omlet's moderation works in practice, where any moderation stops, exactly what the $3 does and doesn't buy, and what to check on Shagle before you decide.

Shagle, briefly

Shagle is a random video chat website that pairs you with strangers on camera. Like many sites in this category, it has offered paid options alongside free chatting.

Features, plans and rules can change at any time, so check Shagle's current terms and pricing page for details. Omlet isn't affiliated with Shagle, and the Shagle name belongs to its owner.

Why moderation and cost come up together

When people compare sites like Shagle, two worries tend to sit side by side. Will I run into something I didn't want to see? And will I end up paying to avoid it?

They're linked because moderation costs money to run, and every chat site pays for it somehow: subscriptions, ads or one-off extras. Our explainer on how free chat sites make money walks through each model.

So the useful question isn't whether a site charges. It's what the charge is for. A fair rule of thumb: the tools that protect you should work the same for everyone, whether or not they've paid.

Every safety tool on Omlet, and what it costs

Here's the full list. The price column is short on purpose.

ToolWhat it doesCost
Safety blurEach new partner's video stays blurred during an on-device check (up to about 4 seconds); detected nudity stays hiddenFree
Text checksMessages are checked on your device; possible threats, hate speech, content sexualizing children or mentions of being under 18 get a second AI reviewFree
Report and skipFlag a partner for one of five reasons and move on at once while moderators review itFree
Never matched againSomeone you report is never paired with you again on that deviceFree
Skip cooldownSomeone you skip isn't matched with you again for 30 secondsFree
Your own controlsMute your mic, turn your camera off, mute your partner, Next and StopFree
In-chat tipsWarnings about scams, threats and linksFree
Country filterMatch with people from one country you chooseFirst day free, then $3 once

Behind those tools, bans apply per device, and sexual content involving anyone under 18 means a permanent ban. The safe video chat page shows how these pieces fit together in a real session.

Where moderation stops, on any site

No chat site can promise you'll never see anything unpleasant, and you should be wary of one that does. These are the honest limits on Omlet:

  • Automated checks can miss things. The blur and text checks catch a lot, not everything. The report button is there for the rest.
  • Age is self-declared. You confirm you're 18+, but there's no ID check. Report anyone who seems under 18 with the Looks under 18 reason.
  • Your partner can see your IP address. Calls are encrypted and peer-to-peer, and that direct connection can share your IP address with the person you're talking to. A VPN hides it.
  • Someone could film their screen. Omlet doesn't record or store calls, but no website can stop a person from pointing a second device at their screen. Behave on camera as if anything could be saved.

If a stranger asks you for money, gift cards or crypto for any reason, it's a scam. Report and skip, and read our guide to video chat scams for the common scripts.

What the $3 country filter buys, and what it doesn't

The country filter is the only thing on Omlet you can pay for, so it's worth knowing exactly where its edges are before you spend anything.

What it does

  • Lets you pick one country from more than 200, so you're matched with people from there instead of Worldwide.
  • Starts with a free first day. After that it's $3 one time, with no subscription and nothing that renews.
  • Stays unlocked on the device and browser you paid on. Stripe handles the payment, and Omlet never sees your card.

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't buy extra safety. Everyone gets the same blur, text checks and report button.
  • It doesn't jump the queue. Matching still pairs you with whoever has waited longest and fits your settings.
  • It doesn't travel with you. A new phone, another browser or cleared site data means it isn't unlocked there.
  • It doesn't speed things up. Choosing one country can make matching slower when fewer people from there are online, and it works both ways: two people are only paired when the match fits both of their settings.

One free day is available per device and home network. The video chat by country page shows how picking a country works in practice.

Omlet beside what to check on Shagle

A two-minute safety routine before you press Start

  1. Check what's behind you. Mail, a window with a recognizable view or family photos can say more than you mean to.
  2. Decide in advance what you won't share: full name, workplace, address, phone number or social handles.
  3. Turn on a VPN if you'd rather your partner didn't see your IP address.
  4. Find the flag on your partner's video so you know where it is before you need it.
  5. Remember the exits: Next (or the → key) moves on, and Stop (or Esc) ends the session.

Frequently asked questions

Is Omlet safer than Shagle?

We don't rate other sites' safety, and no chat site can promise a risk-free experience. What we can tell you is how Omlet works: an on-device safety blur, text checks, a report button on every chat and per-device bans, all free for everyone. Compare that with Shagle's current terms and decide for yourself.

Do I have to pay to report someone or use the safety blur?

No. Reporting, the safety blur, text checks, muting and skipping are free for everyone and work the same whether or not you've bought anything. The only paid feature on Omlet is the country filter, which has a free first day and then costs $3 one time.

Does buying the country filter get me matched faster?

No. Paying doesn't move you up a queue. Omlet pairs you with whoever has waited longest and fits your settings, and narrowing to one country can actually make matching slower when fewer people from there are online. Evenings in that country's time zone usually work best.

Who runs Omlet?

Omlet is an independent random video chat made by Adam and launched in 2026. It isn't connected to Shagle or any other chat site. If you have a question about the service, you can email omletofficial0@gmail.com.
