Australia and New Zealand
Video Chat with People from Australia
Sydney's harbor, Melbourne's laneway cafes, Brisbane's river, Perth's sunsets over the Indian Ocean, Adelaide's wine country and Hobart down in Tasmania: wherever your match is, there's a local story to ask about. English is the shared language, with plenty of slang, and many Australians also speak another language at home, from Mandarin, Arabic and Vietnamese to Greek or one of the many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages.
Time is the tricky part. Australia has three main time zones, and not every state uses daylight saving, so 8 PM in Sydney or Melbourne is 7:30 PM in Adelaide and 5 or 6 PM in Perth, depending on the season. Australian evenings land in the morning in the UK and in the very early hours on the US East Coast. Sport is huge, with AFL, rugby league, cricket and netball each drawing devoted fans, and the outdoors is never far from the conversation, whether that's surfing, camping or a long road trip. Next door, New Zealand is worth a look too.

Tips for chatting with people from Australia
- Aussie slang shortens everything: "arvo" is afternoon, "brekkie" is breakfast and "servo" is a gas station. Ask for more and you'll get a list.
- Ask which state someone is in before guessing the time; Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory don't change their clocks in summer.
- "Footy" can mean different codes: AFL dominates in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania, while rugby league leads in New South Wales and Queensland.
- From Europe, Australian evenings arrive during your morning, so weekend breakfasts are a good time to meet people there.
Only meet people from Australia
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Australia, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Australia and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Australia, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Australia are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
