Video Chat with People from Cameroon
In Cameroon you might start a chat in French and finish it in English. Both are official: English is mainly used in the North-West and South-West regions, and French across the rest of the country, including Douala and Yaoundé. You'll also hear Cameroonian Pidgin English, Camfranglais (a city mix of French, English and local words) and a remarkable range of local languages, from Duala and Ewondo to Fulfulde in the north.
Cameroon is on West Africa Time (UTC+1) with no daylight saving, so 8 PM in Douala is 8 PM in Lagos and mid-afternoon on the US East Coast. Football is a reliable opener (ask about the Indomitable Lions), and so are makossa and bikutsi music and food like ndolé, poulet DG, puff-puff and grilled soya skewers. Travel fans can ask about Mount Cameroon, the black-sand beaches of Limbe, the coast at Kribi or the landscapes of the far north.

How to say hello
A friendly local greeting makes a great first impression.
| Language | Phrase | Say it | Meaning |

| Cameroonian Pidgin | How na? | how NAH | How are you? / What's up? |
| Cameroonian Pidgin | I dey fine | eye day FINE | I'm fine (the usual reply) |
Tips for chatting with people from Cameroon
- Ask whether they'd rather chat in English or French; plenty of Cameroonians switch between the two without a second thought.
- Take time over the hello. A proper greeting matters, and jumping straight into questions can feel abrupt.
- Ask where they're from within the country; food, languages and music change a lot between the coast, the western grasslands and the north.
- If your French is rusty, our French phrases make a quick refresher.
Only meet people from Cameroon
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Cameroon, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Cameroon and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Cameroon, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Cameroon are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
