Video Chat with People from Chad
Chad stretches from the Sahara in the north to green, river-fed savanna in the south, with Lake Chad on its western edge. N'Djamena, the capital, sits where the Chari and Logone rivers meet, right across the water from Cameroon. Moundou and Sarh are the big southern cities, Abéché is the main town in the east, and Faya-Largeau is an oasis in the desert north. French and Arabic are both official. Chadian Arabic is the everyday common language in N'Djamena and much of the country, Sara languages are widely spoken in the south, and there are many more. English is rarely used, so French or Arabic will take you further.
Chad uses West Africa Time, UTC+1, all year, so evening there is early-to-mid afternoon in New York and early evening in London. People are proud of places outsiders rarely see: the sandstone arches and rock art of the Ennedi Plateau, the desert lakes of Ounianga, the wildlife of Zakouma National Park and the Tibesti mountains. Food makes a good opener too, from la boule, a millet or sorghum dough eaten with okra or meat sauce, to kissar flatbread, grilled meat and karkanji, a chilled hibiscus drink.

How to say hello
A few words of Arabic make a great first impression, even if you switch to English right after.
| Language | Phrase | Say it | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arabic | كيف الحال؟ | kayf al-HAAL | How's it going? |
| Arabic | مساء الخير | ma-SAA al-KHAYR | Good evening! |
| French | Bonsoir! Ça va bien? | bohn-SWAHR, sah vah BYEN | Good evening! Are you doing well? |
Tips for chatting with people from Chad
- If you learned Arabic elsewhere, expect Chadian Arabic to sound different; asking how they say everyday words turns the differences into a fun game.
- Ask which region their family is from. The desert north, the Sahel around N'Djamena and the south have different languages, food and music.
- Mention the Ennedi arches or the Ounianga lakes if you've seen photos; people enjoy describing places few visitors reach.
- Keep sentences short and clear if you're mixing French and English; typing a tricky word in the text chat often helps.
Only meet people from Chad
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Chad, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Chad and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Chad, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Chad are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
