Video Chat with People from Libya
Most Libyans live along the Mediterranean coast, so the people you meet are likely to be in Tripoli, Benghazi, Misrata or Zawiya, though some call desert towns like Sabha or the old oasis of Ghadames home. Libyan Arabic is the everyday language, with a handful of words borrowed from Italian over the years, and Amazigh (Berber) languages are spoken in places such as the Nafusa Mountains. You'll find English most often among younger adults and university graduates.
There's no daylight saving here: Libya stays on UTC+2 year-round, which means Tripoli and Rome share a clock in summer but not in winter, and a 9 PM chat in Tripoli falls around 2 or 3 PM in New York. History lovers can ask about Leptis Magna, Sabratha or Cyrene, remarkable Roman and Greek ruins, while food fans can talk about bazeen, couscous, sharba soup, and strong, frothy tea sometimes served with roasted peanuts. Football gets people talking almost anywhere. Choosing Libya in the country filter narrows your matches to people there, and our Tunisia page introduces the country just across the western border.

Tips for chatting with people from Libya
- Start with "marhaba" and a smile. Switching to English afterward is fine, and many people will happily meet you halfway.
- Ask about their hometown's specialty; coastal cities, desert oases and mountain villages all cook and celebrate a little differently.
- Libyan Arabic borrowed some everyday words from Italian, and asking about them makes a light, fun thread to follow.
- Libya keeps the same clock all year, so its gap with Europe and North America shifts when those regions change theirs; double-check if you plan to catch someone at a set time.
Only meet people from Libya
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Libya, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Libya and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Libya, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Libya are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
