Video Chat with People from Morocco
Morocco brings together Atlantic surf towns, Atlas mountain villages and historic medinas, and the person on your screen might be in Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakesh, Fes, Tangier, Agadir or blue-washed Chefchaouen. Moroccan Arabic, or Darija, is what you'll hear most. Tamazight is an official language too, written in its own Tifinagh script on many public signs. French is common in business and higher education, and in the north, around Tangier and Tetouan, plenty of people speak Spanish. English is popular with younger adults.
Morocco's clocks usually sit at GMT+1, which puts a 9 PM chat in Marrakesh at mid-afternoon on the US East Coast and at 8 or 9 PM in London, depending on the season. Football is a shared passion, and the national team's run to the 2022 World Cup semifinals still comes up with pride. Food is never far away: tagine, couscous, msemen, pastilla and sweet mint tea. Gnawa music, chaabi and Moroccan rap give you plenty to swap playlists over. Our Arabic practice page has a few words to start with.

How to say hello
A few words of Arabic make a great first impression, even if you switch to English right after.
| Language | Phrase | Say it | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arabic (Moroccan Darija) | سلام! لاباس عليك؟ | sa-LAAM, la-BAAS a-LEEK | Hi! Are you doing well? |

| French | Bonsoir ! | bohn-SWAHR | Good evening! |
Tips for chatting with people from Morocco
- If someone asks "Labas?", you can answer with the same word, "Labas!", meaning "I'm fine."
- Darja borrows from Arabic, Tamazight, French and Spanish, so even learners of Standard Arabic won't catch everything at first; ask people to slow down or repeat.
- In Tangier, Tetouan and the rest of the north, Spanish is widely understood, which gives Spanish speakers an easy way in.
- Comparing Moroccan and Algerian Darja is a fun, friendly topic; the two are close but use plenty of different everyday words.
Only meet people from Morocco
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Morocco, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Morocco and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Morocco, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Morocco are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
