Video Chat with People from Sudan
Sudan's story runs along the Nile. The Blue Nile and White Nile meet at Khartoum, the pyramids of Meroรซ rise from the desert to the north, and Port Sudan looks out over the Red Sea. You might also meet someone from Omdurman, Kassala or Wad Madani. Arabic is the main language, with Sudanese Arabic having its own warm expressions, and English is an official language too, so many people can manage at least some. Beja, Fur and Nubian languages are among the many others spoken across the country.
Sudan uses Central Africa Time (UTC+2) all year, so 9 PM there matches Cairo in winter and is mid-afternoon in New York. Food and drink make easy openers: spiced jebena coffee, ful medames, kisra flatbread and cold karkadeh made from hibiscus. Music is another good path, from the classic songs of Mohammed Wardi to newer artists. Sudanese people live in many countries, so ask where they're calling from rather than assuming.

How to say hello
A few words of Arabic make a great first impression, even if you switch to English right after.
| Language | Phrase | Say it | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arabic | ุฃููุงู | AH-lan | Hi / Welcome |
| Arabic (Sudan) | ุฅุฒููุ | iz-ZAY-yak | How are you? |
| Arabic | ุชุดุฑููุง | ta-shar-RAF-na | Nice to meet you |
Tips for chatting with people from Sudan
- Start with "ahlan" or a simple hello in English, then switch to whichever language you both find easiest.
- If you learned Egyptian or Levantine Arabic, expect some different words; asking "How do you say that in Sudanese?" keeps things fun. Brush up with our Arabic phrases.
- Let them decide how much to share about home and family, and follow their lead; food, music and football are easy common ground.
- Ask for a song recommendation. Sudanese music often uses a five-note scale, which gives it a sound all its own.
Only meet people from Sudan
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Sudan, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Sudan and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Sudan, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Sudan are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
