Video Chat with People from Nepal
Nepal runs on one of the world's few 45-minute time zones, UTC+5:45, fifteen minutes ahead of India. That makes 8 PM in Kathmandu 2:15 PM in London in winter (3:15 PM in summer) and mid-morning in New York. Kathmandu, Pokhara beside Phewa Lake, the old squares of Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, Biratnagar and Chitwan on the southern plains: any of them could be home to your next chat partner.
Nepali is the shared language, written in Devanagari, and many people also speak Maithili, Bhojpuri, Newar (Nepal Bhasa), Tamang or another of the country's many languages. English is common in higher education, tourism and the cities, so switching is often easy. Good topics come naturally: dal bhat and momos (and where to find the best ones), trekking around Annapurna or Everest, cricket and football, and Nepali pop and folk songs. If you love meeting people far from home, our page on international video chat has more ideas.

Tips for chatting with people from Nepal
- Answer "Kasto chha?" with "Ramro chha" (RAHM-roh chha), "it's good," or "Thikai chha" (TEE-kai chha), "I'm okay."
- Adding "-ji" after someone's name is a polite, friendly touch in Nepali.
- Ask about momos: steamed, fried or "jhol" in a spicy broth, everyone has a favorite style and a place that makes them best.
- Double-check times before suggesting a later chat; Nepal's 45-minute offset catches plenty of people out, and our time zone guide helps with the math.
Only meet people from Nepal
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Nepal, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Nepal and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Nepal, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Nepal are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
