Video Chat with People from Togo
Togo is a long, narrow country, so a short trip takes you from the palm-lined beaches of Lomé to the green, misty hills around Kpalimé, where people hike to waterfalls and coffee and cocoa farms. Lomé, the capital, sits right on the coast at the border with Ghana. Further north are Atakpamé, Sokodé and Kara, and the Koutammakou landscape with its tower-shaped clay houses. French is the official language, Ewe and Mina are everyday languages in the south, and Kabiyè is widely spoken in the north. Thanks to trade with Ghana, some people in Lomé get by in English too.
Togo keeps GMT all year, the same clock as Ghana. Lomé's evenings line up with mid-afternoon in New York, while London shares the same hour in winter and runs one hour ahead in summer. Good topics include fufu with peanut or palm-nut soup, akoumé corn dough with gboma spinach sauce, grilled koklo meme chicken and soft ablo rice cakes. Toofan's dance hits and the classic voice of Bella Bellow are good music picks, and football fans will happily talk about Emmanuel Adebayor. The Evala wrestling festival in the Kara region each July is another great conversation piece.

Tips for chatting with people from Togo
- If someone is from Lomé, ask about the Grand Marché or the beach road at sunset; both are local favorites.
- Ewe is spoken on both sides of the Togo-Ghana border, so if you've picked up any Ewe in Ghana, it works here too.
- Football talk works well. The national team is Les Éperviers (the Sparrowhawks), and Adebayor is a household name.
- Switch to French if English is slow going; even a handful of words keeps the conversation flowing.
Only meet people from Togo
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Togo, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Togo and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Togo, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Togo are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
