How to Clear Site Data for One Website (Every Browser)

Updated · 6 min read

Knowing how to clear site data for one website saves you from wiping your whole browser. Open the site's settings from the icon in the address bar, or find the site in your browser's privacy settings, and delete its stored data. That removes its cookies and saved settings while every other site stays as it was.

It's a good fix when a single site misbehaves or remembers a bad decision, like a blocked camera. Below are the steps for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari on Mac and iPhone, and Chrome on Android, plus a gentler option that resets permissions only.

Read this first: what you lose

Clearing Omlet's site data removes a purchased country filter from that browser, and it won't come back. If you only need to fix the camera or microphone, reset permissions instead and leave the data alone.

Clearing one site's data is like visiting it for the first time. Expect to be signed out if it has accounts, and to lose preferences it saved on your device, such as a language, a theme or offline data for an installed web app.

On Omlet, that means confirming you're 18 or older again and picking your egg avatar again, and Omlet will see the browser as a new device.

Clear cookies for one site in Chrome and Edge

Chrome on a computer

  1. Open the website.
  2. Click the icon at the left end of the address bar (two sliders on recent versions, a padlock on older ones) and choose Site settings.
  3. Click Delete data (Clear data in some versions) and confirm.
  4. To reset camera, microphone and other choices too, click Reset permissions on the same page.
  5. Reload the site.

Without the site open, go to Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → View permissions and data stored across sites, search for the site and click the trash icon.

Microsoft Edge

Edge works much the same way: click the icon left of the address → Permissions for this site, then clear its data or reset permissions. Or open Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data → See all cookies and site data, search for the site and delete it. Menu names may differ slightly by version.

Firefox: remove one site's cookies and data

  1. Open the website and click the padlock in the address bar.
  2. Choose Clear cookies and site data… and confirm.
  3. In the same panel, any permissions you've set are listed. Click the small x next to one to clear it.

From settings instead: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data…, search for the site, click Remove Selected, then Save Changes.

Safari on Mac, and clearing site data in Safari on iPhone

Safari on a Mac

  1. Choose Safari → Settings (Preferences on older versions) → Privacy.
  2. Click Manage Website Data…, search for the site, select it, click Remove, then Done.
  3. For permissions, open the Websites tab, pick Camera or Microphone in the sidebar, select the site and click Remove, or set it to Ask.

Safari on iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Safari (on older iOS, Settings → Safari).
  2. Scroll down to Advanced → Website Data.
  3. Search for the site, swipe left on it and tap Delete.
  4. For camera or microphone access, open the site in Safari and use the page menu in the address bar (aA on many versions) → Website Settings.

A site you added to the Home Screen as a web app can keep its own storage, separate from Safari. Removing it from the Home Screen is the reliable way to reset it, and for Omlet that also removes a country filter bought inside that web app.

Chrome on Android

  1. Open the site, tap the icon left of the address, then Permissions or Site settings (names vary by version).
  2. Tap Clear & reset to remove the site's data and permissions together.
  3. Or open Chrome's ⋮ menu → Settings → Site settings → All sites, choose the site and tap Clear & reset.

Clear & reset removes both data and permissions in one go. If you only need a blocked camera back, set Camera to Allow on the same screen instead. Still blocked? Android may be denying Chrome itself; see camera not working in the browser on Android.

Reset website permissions without deleting data

Most camera and microphone problems are a stuck permission, not bad data. Resetting just the permission is gentler: you stay signed in, and on Omlet your country filter stays put.

  • Chrome and Edge: site icon → Site settings → Reset permissions, or set Camera back to Ask or Allow.
  • Firefox: padlock → click the x next to the permission.
  • Safari: the Websites tab in Settings on a Mac, or Website Settings in the page menu on iPhone.
  • Chrome on Android: site icon → Permissions → set Camera to Allow.

To take camera access away from sites rather than give it back, see how to revoke camera access from websites. If the real problem is the wrong camera, change the camera your browser uses instead.

On Linux, a sandboxed browser can block the camera for every site, which clearing data won't fix; the Linux webcam guide covers Flatpak and Snap permissions.

And if you've bought Omlet's country filter, think twice: it's tied to that browser's data and is lost when you clear it. More about how the filter works in video chat by country.

Frequently asked questions

Will clearing one site's data sign me out of other websites?

No. Clearing one site's data only affects that site, and other websites keep their cookies and settings. The exception is services that share a sign-in with the site you cleared, such as several sites from the same company, which may ask you to sign in again.

Is clearing the cache the same as clearing site data?

No. The cache holds copies of images and scripts so pages load faster. Site data includes cookies and storage where sites keep sign-ins and settings. Clearing the cache rarely changes how a site behaves; clearing site data resets it.

Does clearing Omlet's data give me another free day of the country filter?

Don't count on it. The free first day is limited to one per device and home network, and clearing data also removes a country filter you bought in that browser. The free day starts with a card, and the $3 is charged once when it ends unless you cancel in Settings. If something isn't working, reset camera and microphone permissions first.

Why does a site still remember me after I cleared its data?

Usually the site was still open in another tab, an installed web app version has its own storage, or your settings live in an account on the site's servers. Close every tab of the site, clear it again, and remove any Home Screen or desktop app version too.
