South America
Video Chat with People from Argentina
Argentina stretches from Iguazú Falls in the subtropical north to the glaciers of Patagonia and Ushuaia near the tip of South America. You might meet someone from Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Rosario, Mendoza, La Plata or Salta. The whole country runs on Argentina Time (UTC−3) with no daylight saving, and dinner at 9 or 10 PM is normal, so a 10 PM chat in Buenos Aires falls in the evening on the US East Coast and the small hours in Europe.
Spanish here has a rhythm, slang and pronunciation all its own, known as Rioplatense Spanish, and Guaraní, co-official in the province of Corrientes, is heard mainly in the northeast. English comfort varies. Football talk is a natural opener, from the national team to the Boca–River rivalry, and food is close behind: asado, empanadas, dulce de leche and alfajores. Ask about mate, tango, rock nacional or Córdoba's cuarteto, and about trips to Patagonia or the Mendoza vineyards. Our Spanish phrase guide is a good warm-up.

Tips for chatting with people from Argentina
- Argentines use 'vos' instead of 'tú' ('vos sos' instead of 'tú eres'). You don't have to copy it, but recognizing it helps a lot.
- In Buenos Aires the 'll' and 'y' sound like 'sh', so 'calle' sounds like 'CAH-sheh'; once you hear it, you'll catch it everywhere.
- Ask about mate: sweet or bitter, who they share it with, and whether the thermos goes everywhere with them.
- Boca Juniors or River Plate? Ask which club they follow before you joke about either one.
Only meet people from Argentina
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Argentina, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Argentina and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Argentina, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Argentina are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
