Video Chat with People from Ireland
People from Ireland might be chatting from a Dublin apartment, a shared house in Galway or Cork, a market town in the midlands, or a farmhouse looking out over the Atlantic. English is the everyday language for most, spoken in accents that change noticeably from one county to the next. Irish (Gaeilge) is the national and first official language; most people learned some growing up, it appears on road signs everywhere, and it's the daily language of Gaeltacht communities along the west coast.
Ireland shares a clock with London: GMT in winter and Irish Standard Time, one hour ahead, in summer. That puts Irish evenings in the afternoon across the Americas and in the small hours in East Asia. Hurling and Gaelic football, rugby, traditional music sessions and road trips along the Wild Atlantic Way all make good conversation, and there's always the never-ending subject of the weather. If an accent throws you, our guide to understanding English accents has practical tips.

Tips for chatting with people from Ireland
- "Craic" (pronounced crack) means fun, news or a good time, so "the craic was mighty" is high praise for a night out.
- Ask which county they're from. Gaelic football and hurling are organized by county, so it's an easy route into sport and local pride.
- Try a cúpla focal, "a couple of words" of Irish; even a simple "Dia dhuit" tends to get a smile.
- If you can't follow an accent, just ask them to slow down a little; repeating a sentence is no big deal.
Only meet people from Ireland
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Ireland, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Ireland and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Ireland, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Ireland are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
