Video Chat with People from Nicaragua
Nicaragua is often called the land of lakes and volcanoes, and the people you meet from there might live in Managua, in the colonial cities of León and Granada, in the coffee-growing hills around Estelí and Matagalpa, or near the surf beaches of San Juan del Sur. Spanish is spoken nationwide. The Caribbean coast has a different feel, with English-based Creole, Miskito and other languages heard around Bluefields and the Corn Islands. Away from that coast English is less common, so some Spanish helps.
Nicaragua keeps the same time all year, two hours ahead of Los Angeles in winter and one hour ahead in summer, which makes evening chats easy for anyone on the US West Coast. Baseball is a big topic, followed by boxing, Lake Nicaragua and the twin volcanoes of Ometepe Island, gallo pinto (rice and beans) at breakfast, vigorón from Granada, and the poet Rubén Darío, whose name you'll see on streets and theaters. Tips for chatting with people from Nicaragua
- Nicaraguans use vos a lot, so you'll hear "¿Cómo estás vos?" or "¿De dónde sos?"; it's friendly, never rude.
- "Tuani" means cool and a "chunche" is any thingamajig; dropping one into the chat tends to get a laugh.
- If you meet someone from the Caribbean coast, try English or ask about Creole; life in Bluefields or on the Corn Islands is very different from the Pacific side.
- Ask which baseball team they follow, or whether they play themselves; it's one of the quickest ways to a lively chat.
Only meet people from Nicaragua
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Nicaragua, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Nicaragua and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Nicaragua, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Nicaragua are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
