Video Chat with People from Honduras
From the mountain capital Tegucigalpa to the business hub of San Pedro Sula, and out to La Ceiba on the Caribbean coast, Honduras packs a lot of variety into one country. Spanish is spoken almost everywhere, with a relaxed Central American rhythm and plenty of local slang. On the Bay Islands, including Roatán and Utila, many people grew up speaking English, and Garifuna communities along the north coast keep their own language and drum-driven punta music alive.
Honduras is six hours behind GMT and skips daylight saving time, so if you're in Europe, lunchtime in Tegucigalpa is your evening, and a Honduran evening lands in the middle of your night. Conversation starters that rarely miss: baleadas (thick flour tortillas folded over beans, cream and cheese), sopa de caracol, the Olimpia versus Motagua football rivalry, diving off Roatán, and the carved Maya stelae at Copán. Hondurans often call themselves catrachos, and you'll hear the word a lot. For more Spanish to practice with, see our Spanish page.

Tips for chatting with people from Honduras
- Start with usted ("¿Cómo está?") when you meet someone new; it's polite, and they'll switch to tú or vos when it feels right.
- Ask which city or island they're from. Life in Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula and the Bay Islands is very different, and people enjoy explaining how.
- If your partner is from Roatán or Utila, try English. Bay Islands English has its own lilt and vocabulary, and it's fun to hear.
- Food is the easiest icebreaker: ask for their favorite baleada filling or how their family makes sopa de caracol.
Only meet people from Honduras
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Honduras, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Honduras and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Honduras, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Honduras are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
