Video Chat with People from Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago is two islands with very different moods. Trinidad, home to Port of Spain, San Fernando, Chaguanas and Arima, is the bigger and busier one, while Tobago is quieter, known for Pigeon Point, Buccoo Reef and the small fishing villages around Scarborough. English is the official language, and casual talk happens in Trinidadian English Creole, full of words like "lime" (to hang out) and "allyuh" (all of you). African, Indian, European, Chinese and Middle Eastern roots all shape everyday life, especially the food.
Clocks here never change: it's Atlantic Standard Time all year, meaning 8 PM in Port of Spain equals 8 PM in New York during the US summer, 7 PM there in winter, and roughly midnight in London. Carnival is the topic that never runs dry, from soca and calypso to steelpan, the instrument born on these islands, and the months of costume-making beforehand. Food talk comes easily too: doubles for breakfast, roti, pelau, and bake and shark at Maracas Bay. Cricket fans are everywhere. Want to meet Trinis specifically? Tips for chatting with people from Trinidad and Tobago
- Don't be thrown if someone greets you with "Good night" in their evening; in Trinidad and Tobago it's a normal hello after dark.
- Ask whether they're from Trinidad or Tobago, and which part; people from each island enjoy explaining what makes theirs different.
- In the weeks before Carnival, usually February or early March, ask about the season's big soca songs and which band they'd play mas with.
- Trinidadian speech can be quick and musical. Asking someone to slow down is completely normal; for more help, read how to follow unfamiliar English accents.
Only meet people from Trinidad and Tobago
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Trinidad and Tobago, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Trinidad and Tobago and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Trinidad and Tobago, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Trinidad and Tobago are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
