Video Chat with People from Greece
Evenings in Greece start late and run long, with dinner at nine or ten often just the beginning. You might meet people from Athens or Thessaloniki, from Patras or Larissa, or from islands like Crete, Rhodes and Corfu, each with its own accent, food and summer stories. Greek is the language, written in its own alphabet, and English is widely spoken, especially by younger adults and anyone who works with visitors.
Greece uses Eastern European Time (UTC+2, UTC+3 in summer), an hour ahead of Berlin and Paris and seven ahead of New York, so a 10 PM chat in Athens is 3 PM on the US East Coast. Food is an easy topic: ask about a favorite taverna, spanakopita, or the iced freddo espresso that fills café tables all summer. Football and basketball both have passionate fans, and music runs from rebetiko and laïko to Greek pop and hip-hop.

How to say hello
A few words of Greek make a great first impression, even if you switch to English right after.
| Language | Phrase | Say it | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|

| Greek | Γεια σας! | YAH-sahs | Hello! (polite, or to several people) |

| Greek | Τι κάνεις; | tee KAH-nees | How are you? |
Tips for chatting with people from Greece
- "Ναι" (ne) means yes and "όχι" (OH-hee) means no, which is easy to mix up the first time you hear it.
- An upward nod or raised eyebrows, sometimes with a click of the tongue, can also mean no, so don't read it as agreement.
- Ask about their island or home village; many Greeks have family roots outside the city they live in, and it's often a favorite topic.
- Start on the alphabet with our Greek phrases; being able to read a menu or a street sign is a fun first goal.
Only meet people from Greece
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Greece, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Greece and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Greece, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Greece are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
