Video Chat with People from Jordan
Many conversations with people from Jordan start in Amman, a city built across steep hills, where the old downtown and its cafés sit a short drive from busy modern neighborhoods. You might just as easily meet someone from Irbid in the north, from Zarqa, or from Aqaba on the Red Sea. Arabic is the language of daily life, spoken in a Levantine dialect close to what you'd hear in Lebanon and Syria. English is widely studied, and lots of people, especially in Amman and in tourism, switch to it comfortably.
Jordan keeps the same clock all year, three hours ahead of GMT, so an evening chat in Amman falls around lunchtime on the US East Coast. Good topics include mansaf (lamb cooked in a tangy dried-yogurt sauce and served over rice), warm knafeh soaked in syrup, nights under the stars in Wadi Rum, floating in the Dead Sea and the rock-carved city of Petra. Expect friendly questions back about where you're from and what you eat at home. Want to go beyond hello? Try the phrases on our Arabic page.

Tips for chatting with people from Jordan
- Answer "Marhaba" with "Marhabtein" (literally "two hellos"); it's a playful Levantine reply that people notice.
- Don't be surprised by Arabizi, Arabic typed in Latin letters with numbers for sounds English lacks, such as 3 for ع and 7 for ح. Ask your partner to explain a word if it looks like a code.
- Ask about their favorite spot in Amman, whether it's Rainbow Street, the Citadel hill or a downtown falafel place; you'll get specific, enthusiastic recommendations.
- Keep first chats light and personal. Food, travel, studies and football make better openers than news headlines.
Only meet people from Jordan
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Jordan, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Jordan and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Jordan, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Jordan are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
