Video Chat with People from Moldova
Moldova is a small, hilly country between Romania and Ukraine, and most chats will connect you with someone in Chișinău, Bălți, Orhei, Cahul or one of the wine villages scattered across the countryside. Romanian is the main language, and Russian is widely spoken too, and many people hop from one to the other mid-conversation; in the south you may also hear Gagauz. English turns up most among younger adults and in the capital.
Chișinău keeps the same time as Bucharest, seven hours ahead of New York, so Moldovan evenings overlap nicely with an East Coast lunch break. Wine is a classic topic, especially the vast underground cellars at Cricova and Mileștii Mici, along with food like mămăligă with brânză and sour cream, plăcinte pies and zeamă soup. Music fans can talk folk, modern pop or the country's memorable Eurovision moments. Our Romanian page has phrases to practice, and if you'd rather skip Worldwide and meet Moldovans directly, the country filter does exactly that.

How to say hello
A few words of Moldavian make a great first impression, even if you switch to English right after.
| Language | Phrase | Say it | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Romanian | Salut! Ce faci? | sah-LOOT, cheh FAHTCH | Hi! How are you doing? |
| Romanian | Bună seara! | BOO-nuh SYAH-rah | Good evening! |
| Russian | Привет! | pree-VYET | Hi! |
Tips for chatting with people from Moldova
- Ask which language they'd prefer to chat in; many Moldovans are comfortable in both Romanian and Russian, and letting them choose is a nice courtesy.
- Ask whether their family makes its own wine or what dish they'd cook for a guest; home cooking and homemade wine are favorite subjects.
- If you know Spanish, Italian or French, mention it. Romanian is a Romance language, so you'll recognize more words than you expect.
- Moldova is two hours ahead of the UK all year, so a UK evening is a comfortable late-evening slot there.
Only meet people from Moldova
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Moldova, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Moldova and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Moldova, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Moldova are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
