Video Chat with People from Ukraine
Meet people from Ukraine and a chat could take you to Kyiv on the Dnipro, the coffee houses and cobbled lanes of Lviv, the seaside in Odesa, or the university city of Kharkiv. Ukrainian is the main language, and many younger adults are glad to switch to English, so a mix of the two is common. Ukraine is on Eastern European Time, one hour ahead of Berlin and Warsaw, which puts a 9 PM chat in Kyiv at 2 PM in New York for most of the year.
Food is a reliable way in. Borscht recipes are a point of family pride, and varenyky, deruny (potato pancakes) and syrnyky come up quickly once you ask what someone cooks at home. Ask about the Carpathian Mountains, a favorite band, football, or what a visitor should see first in their city. Ukrainian pop and electronic music have big followings, and people are often happy to share a song you've never heard. If you're learning, our Ukrainian practice page covers the basics.

Tips for chatting with people from Ukraine
- Ukrainian uses Cyrillic with a few letters of its own (і, ї, є, ґ); adding a Ukrainian keyboard to your phone makes the text chat much easier.
- Ask for one song or band to listen to; a music recommendation is an easy way past small talk.
- Let your partner decide how personal the chat gets; their city, hobbies or favorite dish are a friendly place to start.
- Chatting from Germany, Poland or Italy? Ukraine is one hour ahead of you all year, so their 10 PM is your 9 PM.
- Learning Ukrainian? Ask someone to say a word with и and another with і so you can hear how the two sounds differ.
Only meet people from Ukraine
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Ukraine, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Ukraine and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Ukraine, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Ukraine are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
