Video Chat with People from Romania
Romania has a bit of everything to talk about: the Carpathian Mountains, the medieval towns of Transylvania, the wetlands of the Danube Delta and the Black Sea coast. A chat might connect you with someone in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Iași, Brașov, Sibiu or Constanța. Romanian is a Romance language, so speakers of Italian, Spanish, French or Portuguese often recognize words, and many Romanians, especially younger adults, speak English well. Hungarian is also widely spoken in parts of Transylvania.
Romania is on Eastern European Time, one hour ahead of Berlin and Rome, so an 8 PM chat in Bucharest is 1 PM in New York and 6 PM in London. Food talk is a good bet: sarmale, mici straight off the grill, mămăligă, sour ciorbă soups and papanași for dessert. Festivals like Untold in Cluj and Neversea in Constanța draw big crowds, football and tennis have loyal fans, and anyone who's driven the Transfăgărășan mountain road has a story to tell. Pick up a few words first on our Romanian practice page.

Tips for chatting with people from Romania
- If you speak another Romance language, try it out; many Romanians understand some Italian or Spanish and enjoy comparing words.
- Romanian letters like ă, î, ș and ț change how words sound, but plenty of people skip them when typing, so "multumesc" and "mulțumesc" both mean thank you.
- Ask which region they're from, such as Transylvania, Moldavia, Wallachia, Banat or Dobruja; regional food and accents make for great conversation.
- Chatting in late February or March? Ask about mărțișor, the small red-and-white tokens Romanians give each other on 1 March to welcome spring.
Only meet people from Romania
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Romania, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Romania and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Romania, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Romania are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
