Video Chat with People from Mozambique
Mozambique faces the Indian Ocean along a long, sunny coastline, so the people you meet could be in Maputo, the capital with its jacaranda-lined avenues, in the port city of Beira, in Nampula in the north, or in beach towns like Tofo and Vilankulo. Portuguese is the official language and the common ground between regions, while Emakhuwa, Xichangana, Cisena and many other languages are spoken at home. English is less common, though you'll find speakers among students and people who work in tourism.
Mozambique uses Central Africa Time, two hours ahead of GMT, and never changes its clocks: an evening in Maputo matches Paris or Berlin during the European summer and runs an hour ahead of them in winter. Talk about matapa (cassava leaves slow-cooked with peanuts and coconut), grilled prawns with piri-piri, marrabenta dance music, diving with manta rays off Tofo, or the old stone town on Ilha de Moçambique. If you're learning, our Portuguese page is a good place to start, and the country filter lets you meet people from Mozambique specifically.

Tips for chatting with people from Mozambique
- You'll hear "maningue" a lot. It means "very" or "a lot", as in "maningue nice", and using it yourself usually gets a laugh.
- Mozambican Portuguese follows Portugal's spelling and grammar more than Brazil's, so if you learned Brazilian Portuguese, expect a few different words and sounds.
- Ask which province they're from; the south, center and north each have their own languages, dishes and music.
- Beach talk is easy here: ask about their favorite stretch of coast, from Ponta do Ouro in the far south to the Bazaruto islands farther north.
Only meet people from Mozambique
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Mozambique, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Mozambique and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Mozambique, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Mozambique are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
