Video Chat with People from Uganda
Ask someone from Uganda about the rolex and you'll probably get a grin: it's a chapati rolled around an omelet, sold at roadside stands from Kampala to Gulu. English is an official language and widely used, so conversations flow easily. Swahili is the other official language, Luganda is heard all over Kampala and the central region, and Runyankole, Lusoga, Acholi and many more fill out the map.
Uganda is on East Africa Time (UTC+3) all year. An evening there lines up with Nairobi, falls in the late afternoon in Western Europe in winter, and arrives around lunchtime on the US East Coast. Beyond food (matooke, luwombo, fresh tilapia from the lakes), football, long-distance running and Kampala's music scene make good topics, as do trips to Jinja at the source of the Nile, the mountain gorillas of Bwindi or the shores of Lake Victoria.

Tips for chatting with people from Uganda
- Ugandan English has its own expressions: "extend" can mean "move over", and "I'm somehow" means "I'm so-so". Ask when something is new to you.
- Ask which region they're from; languages, food and music differ between the central, northern, eastern and western parts of the country.
- Uganda's evening is around lunchtime on the US East Coast, so a midday break is a good moment to pick Uganda in the country filter.
- Learning Swahili? It's useful across East Africa; start with our Swahili phrases.
Only meet people from Uganda
Omlet matches you Worldwide by default. To meet only people from Uganda, use the country filter, the only filter Omlet has:
- Open Omlet and press Country on the control panel.
- Search for Uganda and select it.
- Press Start. Press Next to meet someone else from Uganda, or switch back to Worldwide any time.
Your first day is free: you add a card through Stripe to start it, and nothing is charged that day. When the 24 hours end, the country filter costs $3 one time, charged to that card, unless you cancel before then in Settings (if you cancel, you can still pick a country until the day ends). It's not a subscription, and it stays unlocked on that device and browser. It doesn't carry over to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browser data removes it. There's one free day per device, home network and card. Payment goes through Stripe, so Omlet never sees your card number.
The filter works both ways, and matching can be slower when fewer people from Uganda are online. Chatting itself is free, and Worldwide matching never costs anything.
Your own country is detected automatically and shown to the people you meet as a flag.
